Dan Henderson: I do not have any desire to fight at middleweight – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight title contender Dan Henderson has brushed aside UFC President Dana White’s claims of him fighting at the middleweight level against Chael Sonnen, his current Team Quest teammate. Henderson stated that it is not particularly about Sonnen
but he simply does not want to move down in weight.
In his recent interview, Henderson stated, “I don't have any real desire to fight at middleweight. The only guy I'd cut weight for is Anderson Silva, win or lose that could still happen.”
In other words, Henderson, also known as ‘Hendo’, made it cleared that the only middleweight champion he would like taking on is Anderson Silva, the current UFC middleweight champion. He said only Silva can convince him to move to the middleweight level
once again.
He further said, “But it's not high up on my list at all. Silva's the only guy I'd cut weight for. I've got the light-heavyweight thing in my mind and that's it. I'd fight Anderson Silva but I'm only interested in the UFC light-heavyweight title right now.”
He also said that even though he is interested in fighting Silva, their rematch is highly unlikely as for now.
On the other hand, Dana White made a statement last week, which said that Dan Henderson is the type of fighter who can take on anyone with the belt. According to White, Henderson is not really fussy and he can even fight his friend Sonnen for it. It should
be noted here that if Sonnen wins the belt from Silva, then Henderson would fight Sonnen for the belt, if Henderson agrees to it.
If a match between Silva and Henderson happens, it will be a rematch of a previous match that Henderson lost to Silva. As for now, Sonnen is the person who will be meeting Silva in the ring for a rematch. The match is scheduled to take place in June this
year in Sao, Paulo Brazil. The venue of the event is not decided yet, but Dana White has promised that it will be one of the biggest UFC events of all time.
