Dan Henderson: I should have fought Jon Jones before Rashad Evans – UFC News
In his recent media interaction, Dan Henderson said that he believes he should have fought Jon Jones before Rashad Evans did. According to Hendo, Dana White was just fulfilling his promise when he gave Evans the chance to fight Jones.
Here is what the 205-pound contender came up saying: “I guess (UFC President) Dana (White) promised Rashad he was next for the title shot. But timing wise, it would have been better for me to fight Jones, and then have Rashad fight the winner.”
On the other, Team Quest co-founder has clarified the situation by saying that they are not really happy with whatever has happened. His exact statement was, “That would have been better than having Rashad come right back after fighting Phil Davis, and it's
probably going to be pushed again if Rashad wins because he's going to have to fight me pretty quickly as well. Dana hasn't publicly stated that I'm next but that's the word."
He further said that the only fight that will make sense is a title shot and that he was hoping to jump the line in front of Rashad but he got to wait until Rashad fights Jon Jones and then he will fight the winner.
It should be noted here that the match between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans was just postponed for the second since both the fighters are recovering from grave injuries. While being interviewed, Hendo also said that he was never offered a match by Dana White
to fight Mauricio and he never rejected it as White is putting it. While Dana claims that he offered Henderson the match for the 5-round classic at UFC 139.
As for now, Henderson is not scheduled to fight with anybody. He is still waiting for his turn, probably against Jon Jones. However, he will have to wait until Rashad Evans faces Jones. If Rashad wins the title then Henderson will be facing Evans but if
Jones retains it then Hendo vs. Jones will be on the cards.
If all goes well then probably Henderson will have his match with Jones or Evans by the end of this year or by the start of next year.
