Dan Henderson: Rashad Evans has the potential and capability to nail Jon Jones – UFC News
It seems that Dan Henderson, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, has complete trust in Rashad Evans since in a recent interview the former champion revealed that he has the ability to hold and break down Jones adding that though Jones is a
good brawler with a unique rather awkward style yet Rashad is the better man and if he replicates his last bout performance he is definitely the one to win the skirmish.
Jon Jones and Rashad Evans are scheduled to constitute the main event of UFC 145 which will take place at Phillips Arena situated in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. The event will take place on April 21, 2012 and will witness Rory MacDonald and Che Mills
take on each other in the co-main event.
Jones has been in a total 16 bouts and came out victorious in 15. He has nailed nine of his total opponents by knockout, four by submission, and two by decision. Infamous as ‘The Bones’, Jon caught media’s attention when he grabbed a submission win over
Ryan Bader.
Later on, the 24-year-old nailed Mauricio Rua to become the UFC light heavyweight champion and afterwards defended his gold authoritatively against Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida.
Rashad, on the other hand, has been in a total 19 bouts and emerged victorious in 17. He has collected six of his total wins by knockout, two by submission, and nine by decision. Evans, infamous as the ‘Suga’, is also a former UFC light heavyweight champion
and has nailed many big names such as Forrest Griffin, Thiago Silva, Tito Ortiz, and others.
The 32-year-old Evans recently nailed Phil Davis in an impressive way to become the number one contender for Jones’ gold. Dan, who is also a light heavyweight, will most probably take on the winner of Jones-Evans bout and it is this reason why he has a detailed
known-how about the two brawlers.
Henderson, also known as the ‘Hendo’, while explaining the reason as to why Rashad has an upper hand, said, “Don't count out Rashad Evans. Everybody’s assuming it will be Jones, but Rashad is a good fighter too. Jon Jones is tough, but Rashad could definitely
come out winning. He will definitely put Jones on his back if he fights like he did against Phil Davis. Rashad's the better wrestler, it’s just that Jones is awkward. But Jones wouldn’t be able to stop him taking him down for that long.”
Rashad and Jones have quite a history that has increased the charm of the clash altogether since both men were formerly fast friends but the desire to be the champion separated their paths and made them arch rivals.
