Dan Henderson: Rashad Evans will defeat Jon Jones – UFC News
Dan Henderson has been confirmed as the next in line to fight for the UFC light-heavyweight title. Dana White, President of UFC, has confirmed that Dan Henderson will fight the winner of the match between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans.
Even though Dan Henderson has been saying that he was the most deserving candidate, it seems like he has to wait for Jon Jones v Rashad Evans to get over. Probably, by fall Henderson will get his chance on the champion.
Henderson, in his recent interview, spoke about the match between Jones and Evans. According to him, Evans will take Jones down despite the fact that Jones is more experienced. Appreciating Evans, Henderson stated, “Don't count out Rashad Evans. Everybody's
assuming it will be Jones, but Rashad is a good fighter too. Rashad got a lot of criticism for his last performance [against Phil Davis] but I thought he fought really well, really solid. Jon Jones is tough but Rashad could definitely come out winning. He
will definitely put Jones on his back if he fights like he did against Phil Davis. Rashad's the better wrestler, it's just that Jones is awkward. But Jones wouldn't be able to stop him taking him down for that long.”
When asked about what he thinks about the fighting styles of both the fighters, Henderson replied that they both have different styles and therefore it will be a very exciting match. He added that Evans is very good on his feet and his striking is outstanding.
He then said that if he fights Rashad, he would have to be careful about not being put on his back often during the match.
Commenting on Jones he said that Jones is taller and he takes advantage of his long legs by kicking hard and that he stays on the outside which makes it difficult to get hold of him. Henderson added that it would be difficult for him to grab Jones more than
Evans, which can be tough for him.
For now, Henderson is hoping Evans to win the match since he thinks Evans is an easier opponent to put down.
