Dan Henderson has no problem fighting on Rousey’s undercard – UFC News
While Dan Henderson’s trainer is not quite impressed with his fighter getting an undercard fight at UFC 157, which is being headlined by Ronda Rousey’s debut UFC fight against Liz Carmouche, Henderson believes he is ready to go for it. The event will take
place on February 23 in Anaheim, California.
According to Henderson’s trainer Pugliese, Henderson and Lyoto Machida, both are bigger fighters than Rousey so they should have been headlining the event. He added that Rousey will be making her debut as a champion and not as a contender, which is not right
as she needs to prove herself in the cage first to grab the title.
“I am perfectly fine as the co-main. I will get to relax and enjoy the women go at it. ... I'm just happy to be getting in the Octagon again,” said Dan Henderson.
Last week, Pugliese asserted in an interview that Rousey is a great fighter yet she has to prove herself in UFC in order to grab the organisation’s title. Rousey will be making her shift from Strikeforce to UFC as a women’s bantamweight champion.
“Ronda is headlining UFC 157. Here is why I have a problem with that. Ronda is the champion of Strikeforce with 6 wins in less than 2 years of a mma professional career. That's impressive regardless of who she has fought. However, she is not the UFC champion
yet,” Pugliese said last week.
“However, she is not the UFC champion yet. She still has to win this fight to get that belt.”
According to Pugliese, Dan Henderson has been a Strikeforce champion and he has enough weight in his bag to headline a show against Lyoto Machida, number one contender for the light heavyweight division.
For now, Dan Henderson is good to go with the scenario, hoping to make the best out of it. It should be noted here that Henderson and Machida both were scheduled to face champion Jon Jones last year, but due to one reason or the other, both of them backed
out of their fights.
Pugliese believes Henderson should be the one headlining the event and not Rousey.
