The toss was won by the visitors’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-Edward-Scollay-c93424, who elected to field first. The pitch was good for batting and a high scoring game was expected, but Scollay predicted the conditions to be easier for the batsmen in the second half of the match.

Max Osborne was the lone wicket-taker for the home team, but he didn’t find any support from the other bowlers.
