Dan King-Turner shows discontent over the selection criteria of Heineken Open officials – Tennis News
Kiwi number two, Dan King-Turner, is extremely saddened by the fact that the warm-up event prior to the start of the Australian Open doesn’t consist of single national player in the draw. Until now, the squad selected for the next
edition of the Heineken Open doesn’t involve any player from New Zealand which is a big question mark for the event organizers.
The remaining two wildcards are expected to be allotted to foreign players which will ensure no place for the national athletes in the Heineken Open at Auckland. King-Turner was angered with the selection of the event officials
and stated, “I don't think any Kiwi's saying that even if Roger Federer is wants to come, or Rafael Nadal's wanting to come, that we should get a wildcard over them. The differences between a Kiwi playing it; or maybe two, three Kiwis playing it, as opposed
to someone ranked 89 to 100 in the world, it would be nice to be considered.”
The tournament is scheduled to begin on January 7 and last until the 12th. It is 250 points Association of Tennis Professionals tournament contested regularly at the start of the new season. The top seed David Ferrer
will be returning to the arena to defend his title for the third consecutive year in 2013.

King-Turner has a strong point as the above listed data clearly states that no local player will be a part of the tournament. One of the two wildcards that are left to be allotted will be announced in the coming weekend whilst
the last one will be kept intact until two-three days prior to the start of the event.
