Dan Lydiate upset with manner of defeat – Rugby News Update
Dan Lydiate, the 24-year-old Dragons and Wales back-row was left to rue the manner of defeat at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney, on Saturday.
Wales went to Sydney with the hope of gaining their first test victory at Wallabies soil for the first time in 43 years, having not defeated Australia since 1969 in their own backyard. They were trailing Australia 2 – 0 going into the Sydney test, and after
the close margin of defeat in the last game at Melbourne, they were confident of securing a scalp.
However, Australia won 20 – 19 with fly-half Berrick Barnes converting his fifth penalty, six minutes from time to give his side victory. Lydiate was upset with the manner of defeat, and once again he was ruing unforced errors for the defeat. It was the
same at Melbourne when they lost 25 – 23, with Australia winning with virtually the last kick of the game.
"We had our chances but fair play to Australia. They had chances and took them well. They kicked their points," Lydiate told Sky Sports 1. "I can't really talk at the minute, I am just absolutely gutted."
He further added, "Too many errors on our part but credit to the Aussies, they're a good team. These games are won and lost by one or two points but we'll get there and we'll look forward to the autumn series at back at our place."
Prior to the tour the Welsh were buoyant that they could achieve a series win against the hosts, with the Wales captain Sam Warburton being vocal about the chances of his team. They were going Down Under on the back of claiming the 2012 Six Nations Grand
Slam.
Australia Captain and flanker David Pocock was delighted that his country won all three matches, and he put it down to hard work, and knowing what Wales was going to do.
"After two games both teams had probably done their homework and knew what was coming," the flanker said.
Wales will be disappointed with the manner of defeats but they can take heart from the fact that they run their opponents close.
