just the fact that the 84 team came up short kinda indicates that not only would the '72 offense beat the relatively poor defense of the '84 team, but the turnabout is also true. The '84 offense could not beat the '72 non-name defense.

How could you even question that one?

72 dolphins the 84 'phins wouldn't see the field Larry Csonka to the right and then Mercury morris to the left. They would run down the clock easily.

1984 Dan Marino, Mark Clayton, and Mark Duper...

The 72 team overwhelms the 84 squad with their triple threat running game.  Once the 84 squad's defense is throughly punished then Griese goes to the air for the coup 'd grace.  Without any real running game to wear down the No Name Defense, Marino is forced to play catch up by airing it out.  In the end the 72 team bends but doesn't break and they walk away undefeated.
