Dan Uggla leads Atlanta Braves to a 6-2 victory against Miami Marlins - MLB Update
Second baseman Dan Uggla puts up a brilliant performance as the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 6-2 at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia in the last match of the three game series on September 27, 2012.
Run-rampage experienced in the fourth inning by the Braves pushed the Marlins back to a great extent.
In light of the fact that the latter have struggled offensively in the season, it was easy to believe that they will not bounce back. No wonder the Braves went on to protect their lead comfortably while Miami showed hardly any resistance.
Marlins at the moment are heavily short on confidence. They may not be as bad as the performance suggests but the demoralised feelings prevailing in the club-house have plagued the talent of their players.
They desperately need bright spots and a couple of standout performances from their players.
Atlanta rightly exploited miserable state of the Marlins and by keeping the pressure on, they defeated them easily. Tommy Hanson carried out the starting job for Atlanta. In little more than five innings, he struck-out four and gave up two runs as he claimed
the win.
As far as the offence was concerned, Uggla did the bulk of the contribution. He struck two hits in four at-bats and contributed three RBIs.
Whenever the third baseman Chipper Jones enters the field, he earns a tremendous reception with a standing ovation. Thursday was no different. He was honoured by the fans despite the fact his performance was ordinary. Jones regrets that he struggled to make
any contribution at the plate.
"That was pretty fun," Jones said. "I wish I had played a little better tonight, but the rest of the guys picked up the slack."
Jacob Turner started for Miami. He was dismayed by the defence of the team as it cost him runs. Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen has stated that Turner threw reasonably well but he was not helped by the defensive plays of the fielders.
"One of these days when this kid pitches we might play better for him," Guillen said. "I hope. Before his career's over. The last two outings he's pitched well but I think his teammates let him down. He was one out away from having a very good inning and
we didn't do it for him."
Atlanta will like to win as many matches as they can before the start of the post-season. They will be looking forward to see their pitchers to continue throwing solid innings.
