Dan Uggla saves Tim Hudson from losing against Philadelphia Phillies - MLB Update
Dan Uggla comes to protect the Atlanta Braves’ starter Tim Hudson as the latter is roughed up by the Philadelphia Phillies.
As soon as Hudson gave up runs from the start, the Phillies were all set to winning the game. As a result, the starting pitcher was to suffer the loss.
However, just as the Braves headed to the defeat, Uggla came to the fore, turning the tables on the Phillies. In turn, he rescued Hudson from facing the loss.
Hudson has been lucky this year with regard to earning the support from the offence. Despite leaking runs in the number of games, he maintains commendable win-loss record.
Tim has also been great on the mound himself but it is the hitters that have done the bulk of the contribution in ensuring victories.
Uggla is relieved as before this game his performance was declining. Ever since the start of the second half of the season, his production has gone down sharply.
Though he played in the All-Star Game but he has failed to live up to this prestige in the matches that he played after the break.
Meanwhile, Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez has spoken of the move that he took regarding Uggla on Tuesday. Gonzalez did not let him face Cole Hamels in the game and instead introduced him on August 8.
“We’ve seen him,” said Gonzalez. “You know the animal. You know that he’s going to go through these things, and you’ve got to be patient with him and let him go through some stuff.”
After helping the team in the victory, Uggla resolves to build on it now and wants to reward the confidence that the management put in him earlier even when his performance was not good.
“I’ve been scuffling for way too long,” said Uggla. “I’ve been lucky my teammates have picked me up and now it’s my turn to let them breathe a little easier. It’s something I take pride in, and it’s time to get going.”
Uggla boasts a potential to win games for the team from the most hopeless of situations. Therefore, a quick return to form by him is a great sign for the Braves.
