Dan Uggla says “I want to stay in Florida”
Major League Baseball (MLB) has gone through some significant changes over the past few years and most of the impact has been made on the clubs ‘structure.
The teams in both the National League and the American League are working towards gaining a considerable foothold in the market that has been running abuzz with the influx of free agents, which has now become open to negotiations and trade across franchises.
Cliff Lee, along with veterans like Jayson Werth, Carl Crawford and Derek Jeter headline the market activity. There’s no wonder, who will go where when the transactions and period comes to a close but for now, the speculative power is at its peak.
Dan Uggla has been riding on a high horse for a while now and when the top hitter for the Florida Marlins won the silver slugger award, rumours had reached a pinnacle height and it all pointed towards a problem in the negotiations between the club and the
player on a contract extension.
Many sources made a pass at the batter’s dedication but the strong second baseman made the announcement on Thursday during the Award ceremony that he would want to stay at the club, rather than move out after 2011.
Though the negotiations broke down on Sunday, the player has stated his intent and he went on to say, “Now, my team (Terry Bross) still wants to negotiate. It has been the Marlins' choice to stop negotiations. They have chosen to stop negotiations. But me
and my team are still open to negotiate and getting something done".
There are considerations on alternatives at the moment and if there isn’t an agreement soon, the club could look towards trading the player out before they have to continue on with the hitter as a member of the roster. Nevertheless, there were no details
revealed on the deal that was under negotiation. It remains to be seen what happens in the long run.
Uggla made the following statement at the Awards, saying “I'm not going to get into the details of all (the) discussions. I like to keep all of that private. I'm not sure how all of that got leaked, even the four-year deal, how it got leaked to the media.
I just want it to be known that I do want to stay in Florida. We still want to get something done. That's where we stand”.
