Dan Uggla sparks as Atlanta Braves defeat Washington Nationals 6-4 - MLB Update

Atlanta Braves’ second baseman, Dan Uggla was outstanding with the bat as he went 2-for-4 with an average of .215 and hit three RBIs including a solo homer in the Braves’ 6-4 win over the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park, Washington on August 3.
Braves got off to a decent start as they added two quick runs during the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Freddie Freeman was grounded out to second base and Michael Bourn contributed the first run. The second run for the Braves was taken by Uggla when Alex
Gonzalez drove a single-run hit towards right-field. Eric Hinske moved to second base at the top of the first inning.
The batters struggled from second to fourth inning of the game as they were unable to play their regular shots on the tricky pitches. In the third inning, the Nationals’ centre-fielder Rick Ankiel doubled off deep right-field but Chien-Ming Wang was grounded
out to short-stop position, at the right-field Danny Espinosa flied out as Ryan Zimmerman grounded out.
At second base, Hinske grounded out as Gonzalez flied out to right-field and at the centre-field, David Ross flied out without scoring any run during the fourth inning. Braves blasted four runs in the fifth inning to raise their lead 6-0. Bourn posted a
single run on the drive of Freeman towards centre-field. Uggla homered (395 feet) to left-field while Martin Prado and Freeman both scored two runs collectively.
In the sixth inning, the Nationals’ batters opened their innings with a blast and posted four runs to cut their deficit 6-4. Michael Morse hit a single-run shot towards centre-field and Espinosa added one run. The second run for the Nationals was taken by
Ryan Zimmerman when Morse advanced to second base on the wild pitch of Brandon Beachy.
Uggla said, “The first couple months, I was hitting the ball hard but had some awful, awful luck. You stay positive, keep grinding out some at-bats, get a couple to fall through, get a little confidence going and keep going from there.”
Jayson Werth struck a two-run homer (438 feet) towards centre-field and Morse contributed the last run. During the final three innings, the pitchers did not allow the batters to take runs. Despite the hard-fought win, the Braves lost the three-game series
2-1 played at Nationals Park.
