Dan Wallace occupies Men’s 400m freestyle gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Dan Wallace of Gator Swim Club occupied gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on day three of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, July 14.
The 19-year-old Wallace stifled hopes of his opponents who were eyeing the title of the 400m event. He continued his nerve-wrecking pace throughout the eight-lap event and reached the wall for gold medal.
With his impeccable pace, he managed to edge out his closest challenger over the finishing end as he posted a time of 3 minutes and 59.01 seconds for gold medal.
His gold claiming effort remained 0.33 seconds ahead of his teammate, Alejandro Gomez, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 3 minutes and 59.34 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Matthew Thompson of West Florida Lighting, who stayed nearly three body lengths away and settled on the finishing blockade as third position holder by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 02.00 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was secured by Scott Fortier of Area Tallahassee, who was 1.13 seconds apart and ended his race with the timing of 4 minutes and 03.13 seconds.
Fortier was followed by Nicholas Schwab of Indiana University, who suffered a loss of 0.22 seconds from his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 03.35 seconds for fifth position.
Similarly, Schwab was traced by Lance J Rutkin of Swim Ft Lauderdale, who was 0.98 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 04.33 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Logan Samuelson of Swim Florida-FL, who remained 2.04 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.37 seconds.
Samuelson was chased by Youse Alaskari of Davie Nadadores, who finished eighth in the discipline by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 10.32 seconds.
In addition, Wallace was satisfied with his performance in the 400m discipline and said that he would try hard to excel in the same discipline at the future events.
