Dana Vollmer claims Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day two – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Dana Vollmer of California Aquatics claimed gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day two of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Friday, May 11.
The 24-year-old Vollmer went on a rampage in the double lap butterfly event and spoiled the party of her competitors by winning gold medal of the event.
With her astounding efforts, she remained in a considerable lead over her challengers throughout the event and clocked an effort of 57.21 seconds for gold medal.
Her stupendous effort remained 1.61 seconds ahead of her team-member, Natalie Coughlin, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 58.82 seconds.
Her immaculate effort remained just 0.02 seconds lucky from her following rival, Claire Donahue of Western Kentucky, who tapped the wall for bronze medal by producing a time of 58.84 seconds.
The third position holder was trailed by Denisa Smolenova of Una SMU-NT, remained nearly half body length behind and hit the wall with the timing of 59.31 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of Bahamas, who stayed 0.37 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 59.68 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth position of the event was secured by Elaine Breeden of Stanford-PC, who was only 0.08 seconds apart and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 59.76 seconds.
Breeden was trailed by Erika Erndl of T2 Aquatics-FL, who tried hard to overpower Breeden over the finishing end but failed to match her pace in the final 15 metres of the event.
The 33-year-old Erndl stayed only 0.03 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in a time of 59.79 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Amanda Kendall of Mason Makos-PV, who stayed almost half body length behind and emerged on the finishing end as eighth position holder by producing a time of 1 minute and 00.27 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for awards and accolades for their remarkable efforts after the session.
