Dana Vollmer clinches Women’s 100m butterfly gold – 2013 Arena Grand Prix
Dana Vollmer of California-PC clinched gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day one of the 2013 Arena Grand Prix in Colorado, USA, on Thursday, February 14.
The 25-year-old Vollmer faced tough competition from her following swimmer but with her relentless efforts, she managed to occupy gold medal of the event. She showed no mercy to her rivals and earned her way towards the finishing blockade for the title.
Vollmer stayed in a half body length ahead of her closest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 58.91 seconds.
The champion remained 0.45 seconds faster from Jeanette Otteson of Denmark, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 59.36 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Audrey Lacroix of PPO, who stayed 0.34 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and finished third in the race by submitting a time of 59.71 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars-C, who was 1.49 seconds slower and settled on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.20 seconds.
Franklin was chased by Samantha Cheverton of Pointe-Claire Swim Club and Kim Vandenberg of New York Athletic, who engaged each other in a tough battle. Both swimmers demonstrated their unstoppable efforts in the final round but failed to escape each other
over the finishing wall.
They stayed only 0.50 seconds apart and occupied fifth position of the event by producing an effort of 1 minute and 01.70 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by Nicole Stafford of Dynamo Swim Club, who stayed 0.43 seconds slower from her and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.13 seconds.
Stafford was traced by Sandrine Mainville of PPO, who was 0.85 seconds away and failed to overpower any of her opponents. Mainville was the last swimmer of the event as she ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 02.98 seconds.
Furthermore, Vollmer received massive appreciation from the audience for her invincible form after the session.
