Dana Vollmer pockets Women’s 50m butterfly gold: Day three – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Dana Vollmer of California Aquatics pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly on third day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Saturday, May 12.
The 24-year-old Vollmer dictated terms to her challengers throughout the shortest butterfly discipline and proved her eligibility for gold medal.
With her immaculate efforts, she remained considerably ahead of her challengers throughout the event and tapped the finishing end for gold medal by posting a wonderful time of 25.80 seconds.
The champion was followed by Claire Donahue of Western Kentucky, who stayed 0.89 seconds apart and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 26.69 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Andrea Georoff of SwimMAC Carolina, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower and snared bronze medal of the event by touching the wall with an effort of 26.87 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was secured by Jessica Hardy of Trojan Swim Club, who stayed almost half a body length away from her former finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 27.55 seconds.
Her gruelling effort remained 0.14 seconds faster from Carolina Colorado of Davie Nadadores, who settled on the finishing blockade as fifth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 27.69 seconds.
The 24-year-old Colorado was trailed by Kelsey Floyd of Tennessee Aqua-S, who was just 0.04 seconds apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 27.73 seconds for sixth position.
Similarly, Floyd remained marginally ahead of her following swimmer, Zina Grogg of Una SBE-NC, who was only 0.21 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing wall for seventh position by posting a time of 27.94 seconds.
Subsequently, Grogg remained just one stroke away from her following challenger, Kateryna Fesenko of Indiana Univ.-IN, who failed to upset any of her competitors and reached the finishing end as eighth position holder by clocking a time of 28.05 seconds.
In addition, the session came to an end after the conclusion of all listed races while the medal winners received awards and accolades for their exhausting efforts after the session.
