Dana Vollmer wins Women’s 100m butterfly prelims: Day one – 2011 USA Swimming Long Course Nationals
California Aquat’s Dana Vollmer produced a stunning splash on day one of the 2011 USA Swimming Long Course Nationals in Paloalto, California, on Tuesday, August 2. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m butterfly preliminary heat, in which Vollmer
gave her best attempt and won the race with a sterling time of 57.68 seconds.
After winning the 100m butterfly preliminary heat, Vollmer felt really pleased and satisfied with her splash in the respective category.
Recently, Vollmer won two gold medals in the Women’s 100m butterfly and 4x100m Medley races at the 2011 edition of the World Championships, in Shanghai, China. Additionally, Dana won the Women’s 4x200m freestyle crown at the 2004 Olympic Games, in Athens.
Meanwhile, Claire Donahue of Western Kentucky stood second on the podium with an impressive time of 58.91 seconds and Elaine Breeden of Stanford Swimmin captured third place with a winning time of 59.04 seconds.
Christine Magnuson of Tucson Ford Deal finished fourth with a time of 59.13 seconds. Kendyl Stewart of North Coast Aqua rounded out the top five in the heat with a time of 59.17 seconds, while Kathleen Hersey of Longhorn Aquatic settled sixth in a time of
59.19 seconds.
Olivia Scott of Auburn Aquatics earned seventh place honours with a time of 59.52 seconds, whereas, Lyndsay Paul De wound up eighth in a time of 59.60 seconds. Katherine Mills of Swim MAC Carolina was placed ninth in a time of 59.67 seconds, whereas, Felicia
Lee of Stanford Swimmin finished tenth in 59.70 seconds.
In the corresponding heat, Jennifer Connolly of Tennessee Aquati grabbed eleventh spot with a time of 59.75 seconds, whereas, Tennessee’s team-mate, Kelsey Floyd settled twelfth in a time of 59.81 seconds. Caitlin Dauw of Club Wolverine finished thirteen
with a time of 59.83 seconds, while Jessica Hardy of Trojan Swim Club wound up fourteenth in a time of 59.95 seconds. Kimberly Vandenberg of New York Athletic earned fifteenth place after she touched the finishing wall to end her swim in 1 minute and 00.03
seconds.
