Dana W Vollmer clinches Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day two - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Dana W Vollmer of California Aquatics clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Saturday, June 2.
The Santa Clara event is the last of seven-stage 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that allows the international players to contend each other before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 24-year-old Vollmer remained prominent for gold medal from the start of the race. With her epic pace and laudable efforts, she reached the other end of the pool with the timing of 27.71 seconds.
She was followed by Chelsea A Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team, who remained nearly half body length behind and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 28.27 seconds.
Vollmer continued her smothering pace in the second lap, where she extended her lead from her following swimmer and posted a time of 57.29 seconds.
Chenault remained nearly 0.70 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and ended her first half of the swim with the timing of 58.03 seconds.
The same continued in third lap, where Vollmer sustained her pace and concluded her 150 metres of the swim with the timing of 1 minute and 27.63 seconds.
Her immaculate effort remained 0.50 seconds faster from her strongest challenger, Chenault, who covered the equivalent distance with the an effort of 1 minute and 28.13 seconds.
Vollmer continued her nerve-wrecking pace in the final round, where she stayed considerably away and occupied gold medal of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 57.25 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 1.60 seconds faster from her subsequent swimmer, Chenault, who captured silver medal of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 58.85 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Kimberly Vandenberg of New York Athletics, who stayed 1.58 seconds apart and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 00.43 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all events while the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
