Dana White: Alistair Overeem’s nine-month suspension is less than my one-year expectation – UFC News
Dana White, UFC President, broke his silence about the recent shocking Alistair Overeem nine-month suspension incident, saying that Overeem hid the real scenario from him adding that he does not like being lied at all and anticipated a much stiffer suspension
of almost one-year.
White shared his thoughts about the sad occurrence that has again initiated one of the most controversial topics in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the usage of performance enhancing drugs.
Alistair was scheduled to take on Junior Dos Santos but as a result of the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s decision, collected a nine-month suspension along with the revocation of his bout-license.
White while explaining the scenario in a recent interview clearly commented that he was not optimistic about Overeem’s situation and added that he believed he will most probably get at least one-year suspension and not less than that.
Dana stated, “I wasn't very optimistic about his chances. I didn't think things were going to turn out very well for him. So as expected. 9 months isn't as bad as I thought it would be.”
White, who is notorious for having a stiff stance over the drug matters, moved on and remarked that he will not support Alistair at all and will not talk against his suspension adding that if he says that he was taking anti-inflammatory medicines he should
have revealed such scenario before the drug test to the commission.
When asked as to how he feels about being lied by one of the best men in his business, Dana replied that it is obvious one does not like a person who lies to you especially when he is a partner in your business or an important part of your venture.
White shared his inner feelings and said, “I don't like it. You know you sit down and you have these guys that you do business with and you say let's sit down, be honest with me and let's figure out how we can work together. And then they sit there and lie
to your face. I don't know. Not the kind of guys I want to do business with.”
Dana who did not knew the whole scenario just stated that he does not like Overeem to be a part of such matter adding that he is considered and liked by most in the UFC and the sport of mixed martial art and such an irrational behaviour can only create difficulties
not only for his own self but also for the promotion.
Due to the nine-month suspension the UFC 145 pay-per-view’s headliner event is being changed to Junior Dos Santos defending his title against Frank Mir. The show will take place on May 26, 2012 and the octagon will be stretched at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
