Dana White: Anderson Silva will not fight until 2013 – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has revealed that Middleweight champion Anderson Silva will not compete until 2013.
At a news conference in Denver past Saturday, white confirmed that Anderson Silva is looking for some time out. Therefore, according to White, Silva will not compete anytime this year.
“Anderson said he wants to take some time off until after the end of this year, then we'll start talking to him,” said White.
Silva recently defeated American mixed martial artist Chael Sonnen via second round knockout. Following Silva’s defeat, many young fighters in the division are hoping of challenging Silva. However, Silva’s camp has already declined the notion of the Brazilian
Spider facing young fighters such as Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and the like.
“He's in a great spot. He demolished the No. 3 guy (Munoz) in spectacular fashion. He's got the right to call out whoever he wants,” added White while talking about Silva’s position in the industry.
It should be noted here that Silva’s camp is trying to get a fight against Georges St-Pierre, believing he is the only fighter who will be a good fit for the champion.
“He's going to have to wait or fight, because Anderson is going to fight after the end of the year,” said White when asked about St-Pierre’s fight against Silva.
“I guess (St. Pierre) says he wants to fight (Silva), too,” White added.
Lorenzo Fertitta, co-owner of UFC, was also present at the occasion. When asked about UFC’s 2013 schedule, Fertitta revealed, “I don't think we'd do anything in January but we've been in contact with them. Dallas Cowboys Stadium is something we definitely
want to do and we're focused on, but it's tricky. It's so busy, it's hard to get a date that works for us.”
While Silva is planning on going for vacations, Michael Bisping and Chris Weidman are losing patience to get to the champion. Bisping, who was defeated closely by Chael Sonnen last year, wants to take on the champion, believing he has the knack that can
kill Silva. Similarly, Weidman believes his speed and power can be damaging to the champion.
