Dana White: Dos Santos wants to fight Alistair Overeem – UFC News
President of UFC Dana White revealed Junior Dos Santos wants to fight Dutch mixed martial artist Alistair Overeem next.
White was being interviewed by UFC on Fox 4 when he revealed regarding his meeting with Junior Dos Santos.
“I sat down with Junior Dos Santos, who is the nicest guy in the world... He said, ‘I have nothing but respect for Cain Velasquez, as a person and as a fighter. I think he deserves a shot at the title, but I do not want to fight him,’” revealed White, who
believes Junior Dos Santos is one of the rising stars of UFC.
Previously, there were speculations of Dos Santos facing Cain Velasquez in a rematch but White’s revelations have squashed them already.
According to White, Santos feels humiliated by the comments Overeem has been making about him.
“He said, ‘Alistair Overeem is a punk, he’s got a big mouth, he’s been saying lots of bad things about me. I want to knock him out and I want to knock him out now,’” added White.
Santos went head to head with Cain Velasquez at UFC on Fox 1. He knocked Cain out to win the heavyweight title.
It should be noted here that Santos was scheduled to fight Overeem last May but the fight could not happen as the latter failed a drug test. Overeem is currently under suspension until December 2012.
White made sure that his comments are not taken as a verdict. He asserted that as of now it is just Santos’ wish to fight Overeem but nothing has been made official yet. White added that he loves Santos for what he has done for the organisation.
According to White, Santos has always ever done what he was told by the organisation. White is proud over Santos’ performance, calling him ‘my heavyweight champion’. On the other hand, Overeem believes Santos is overrated and that a fierce opponent can snatch
his title from him.
Probably, a fight between Santos and Overeem might happen when the latter ends his suspension period successfully. Santos will get the chance to settle his score with Overeem finally.
