Dana White: Frankie Edgar-Ben Henderson II this summer and Anthony Pettis has to wait - UFC news
It seems like Frankie Edgar the former UFC lightweight champion’s wish has finally come true. According to updates, the previously critical UFC President Dana White, has said that Edgar will get a rematch against Ben Henderson with title on the line and
most probably this summer.
Frankie and Ben entered the octagon on February 25, 2012 to headline UFC 144 pay-per-view. Frankie was the one who arrived with the gold round his waist and spirits high about retaining his precious title for the fourth consecutive time.
But Ben had something else in his mind and the world witnessed the ‘Smooth Bendo’ come out of the octagon unscratched with the belt glittering round his waist. Edgar, on the contrary, was the one who got brutally pummelled by Ben’s fists, kicks, and takedowns.
After Ben’s acquisition of the title, tidings, discussions and rumours commenced as to who will be his next opponent. Will it be Anthony Pettis who will take on Ben to recall their previous World Extreme Cagefighting skirmish or will it be Edgar who recently
got busted by the submission specialist Ben.
The whole mist of confusion settled when Frankie posted the huge announcement on his twitter account and later on, Dana White while seconding him said that Frankie will get a rematch and will take on Ben Henderson for the lightweight title. The announcement
was made by both men on their twitter accounts.
Frankie Edgar first posted, “Rematch anyone??.......it's on!! Thanks to @danawhite @lorenzofertitta. Me and Henderson 2. Here we go!!” After the passage of few hours Dana White also posted a one-liner and sealed Frankie as the Ben’s next opponent. Dana tweeted,
“Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson rematch will be this summer.”
It must be kept in mind that in the beginning of all this discussion, Dana, in an interview said that he will advise and somewhat pressurise Frankie to move down the division and take on Jose Aldo, the current featherweight champion. In addition White also
said that most probably Anthony Pettis might be Ben’s future opponent.
But now, after the settlement, Anthony has to wait again for a while and the UFC fanatics will witness Frankie-Ben II. Frankie, widely known as the ‘Answer’, has been in a total 17 bouts and came out victorious in 14. He is famous for pinning B. J. Penn
twice.
