Dana White: Georges St-Pierre has been a phenomenal champion – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White believes Georges St-Pierre is a phenomenal fighter and there is no doubt about it. GSP is currently scheduled to fight Nick Diaz, as both fighters have personal grudges to settle. Even though Johny
Hendricks was the number one contender for the title, GSP decided to go head to head against Diaz.
GSP currently stands with 23 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Johny Hendricks stands with 14 wins and 1 loss. While Hendricks is the number one champion to fight GSP, the champion requested otherwise. GSP requested White to place him against Nick Diaz,
breaking Hendricks’ heart as he was looking forward to a title shot next.
However, Dana White is not at all upset with the situation, as he believes GSP has earned the right to choose his opponents.
“Georges St-Pierre has been a phenomenal champion. He's a great guy to deal with and he doesn't ask for things. So, if he wants to fight Nick Diaz and Nick Diaz wants to fight him, then that's probably the fight we'll make,” said White.
Both fighters are now scheduled to fight next year. If GSP wins, he will be facing Johny Hendricks next but that is not sure right now. Hendricks will be facing another opponent and if he loses, his fight against GSP might be in jeopardy.
“Listen, Johny Hendricks has had some great fights. When you talk about winning in spectacular fashion -- this guy hits people so hard they skid across the Octagon,” said White.
“He's in no position to demand anything (though). Georges St-Pierre is the champ. He has been forever,” White added for Hendricks, who has been demanding a fight against GSP for a long time now.
For now, it seems like Johny Hendricks has no choice but to follow White’s decisions. Although Hendricks has proven himself enough, it seems like White wants him to go the extra mile to get the privileged of fighting The Rush.
On the other hand, GSP has already promised Hendricks the fight, provided he defeats his all time nemesis Nick Diaz.
