Dana White: Jon Jones should wait for the right moment to move up the heavyweight division - UFC News
Dana White, President Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), shared his sceptical thoughts about whether Jon Jones decision in moving up the heavyweight division is a good one or not and said that he should wait for the apropos moment adding that the heavyweight
division consists of serious big men who can easily obliterate anyone.
Dana shared these views in a recent media interaction where he clarified many rumours and confirmed certain upcoming engagements. Jon Jones, the current UFC light heavyweight champion, recently defended his title against his former friend and current arch
rival, Rashad Evans, by collecting an easy and impressive unanimous decision.
The bout, which was hyped extraordinarily, faced much criticism since Rashad was unable to put forth a real-time tough fight and just got stunned every now and then by Jones elbows.
After the bout, rumour popped out as to whether Jon has finally wiped out the whole division and is now the unanimous number one light heavyweight in UFC. Critics, analysts and UFC fanatics were quite confident that after conquering the whole division and
defending his title for the fourth consecutive time, Jones now must move up in the heavyweight division.
It is this reason why Dana put forth the media his point of view and explained that he would not support the idea since Jones is 24-years-old adding that there still are men left in the division with whom Jones has not yet collided.
Jones who now, most probably, will defend his title against Dan Henderson, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and UFC light heavyweight contender, currently weighs 205 pound. White corroborated his point of view by using this fact and said
that Jon should wait till he naturally gets some weight on and then move up the division since there are men who have the ability and above all the power to obliterate him.
Dana remarked, “Jones is a physical specimen. The guy is huge at 205 pounds.... He can make 205. Once he cleans out a division and starts getting a little old and stale, then maybe he makes that move to heavyweight. He’s 24 years old, and as he gets older,
it’s going to be harder to cut that weight. It’s going to be harder to stay as lean as he is. If I was him, and I’m not his coach or advisor or anything, I’d wait until that naturally happens....You move up to heavyweight, and you've got Junior Dos Santos
up there.”
White proudly said that the heavyweight division comprises of serious men who can injure any man and do not take their bouts lightly adding that Jones decision to move up in the division at this particular stage will only be a regrettable one.
