Dana White: Jones should remain at light heavyweight for now – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be facing Dan Henderson next after beating long time rival Rashad Evans this Saturday at UFC 145. UFC announced Dan as Jones next opponent this Sunday. However, Jon Jones, who currently thinks he has achieved
it all in the division, wants to move up to the heavyweight division. While Jones thinks of it as a career jump, President of UFC Dana White thinks Jones will make a blunder if he does so.
Praising Jones capabilities, Dana remarked, “Jon Jones is a physical specimen. The guy is huge at 205 pounds. He’s out there doing things, and not only is he a big guy, he’s super athletic. He was throwing elbows like they were hands [against Rashad Evans
at UFC 145], but he needs to stay at 205.”
Dana is not in the favour of Jones moving up in weight since he thinks Jones still has a lot of time and a lot more to do at this weight. He added, “He's 24 years old, and as he gets older, it's going to be harder to cut that weight. It's going to be harder
to stay as lean as he is, and it'll just naturally happen.”
According to White, a time will come when Jones will naturally gain weight and would want to move up because he is so big but for now he should stay at 205. Dana further said that if he was his coach or trainer he would have suggested Jones to stay at the
weight and gain more experience before moving up to the heavyweight division.
For now, it is not sure whether Jones wants to stay at the light heavyweight division or not. If rumours are to be believed, then Jones will move up and not fight Henderson. Henderson, who is 42, will have to fight another champion or will have to fight
for the vacant title with the nearest contender.
Nothing as yet has been decided by Jones and the UFC about Jones’ next fight, apart from the opponent. Jones will probably fight Henderson in July or August, after he has completely recovered from his injuries.
