Dana White: Nate Diaz has to wait for winner of Henderson vs. Edgar – UFC News
Nate Diaz choked Jim Miller on Saturday night to win the headlining bout at UFC on Fox 3. Diaz made it a mark to prove he is the next big thing in UFC. Diaz now wants to challenge the lightweight champion for the title shot. Luckily, Diaz also has Dana White’s
approval to it. After the showdown, White announced that Diaz would have to wait for the winner of Benson Henderson vs. Frankie Edgar (a championship match) to get what he deserves.
The match that took place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, had Diaz completely dominating Miller. Even though Miller gave in his best and tried to stop Diaz from knocking him out, he still could not win. When Diaz realized knockout is not
an option, he locked Miller in a submission and made him tap out.
Miller was impressed by Diaz’s performance. After the fight, he said, “Nate controlled the fight from bell to bell. He controlled the momentum and never let me get any significant shots in there. He fought a beautiful fight and had my number.”
When asked about Miler’s performance, Diaz said, “He kind of grabbed on me a little bit, and I just got [the guillotine] in there. [How I did it] is top secret. He’s tough, and it was [scheduled for] five rounds. It was going to be him or me, so I’m glad
it went the way it did. I guess I got lucky. I guess it was my time to shine.”
Diaz expressed that he wants to take on Ben Henderson soon and then he wants to take a break. He said he does not really care as to what happens to him, all he wants is the title shot. He said he is eager to fight the champion and he will start training
from tomorrow to make sure he is ready for the big day.
For now, Dana White has confirmed that Diaz will fight the winner of Henderson vs. Edgar. This will Diaz’s first title shot and if he makes it to the mark, he will be the next UFC lightweight champion.
