Dana White: Nike ended the Pacquiao line – Boxing News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White revealed earlier this week that Nike has ended its Pacquiao line of athletic shoes, making way for a new line-up of Jon Jones.
Although reports are suggesting that White’s comments were false, to a certain extent many are of the view that such an incident can happen, considering Manny Pacquiao’s recent controversial loss to Timothy Bradley.
“They’re shutting down the Manny Pacquiao line and starting up the Jon Jones line... I don’t know why they shut down the Pacquiao line, but they did and that (expletive) was selling like hot cakes. I got Manny Pacquiao (expletive) from Nike,” said White
in a recent interview.
Dana White has always claimed that he is a great boxing fans and that he has great regards for Manny Pacquiao, but he has time and again said that the sport needs cleaning. After Pacquiao’s controversial loss, many hearts were broken around the world. Most
fighters believed the decision to be unjust, while fans believed it to be a robbery.
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan came up saying that the decision was a ‘robbery’ for Pacquiao. He then challenged Bradley to the ring to settle the score.
Similarly, Andre Ward, Bradley’s close friend, said that Bradley should have immediately declined to accept the decision upon hearing it.
Owner of Golden Boy Promotions and former fighter Ricky Hatton suggested Bradley to hand over the title to Pacquiao as a gesture of respect towards justice in the sport.
Despite all the hatred and negative remarks, Bradley insisted that this is part of the sport and that he won the showdown regardless of what others have to say.
For now, Pacquiao is scheduled to fight on November 10. However, his opponent is yet to be decided. The Filipino wants to lock horns with the unbeaten American fighter once again to get his title back. However, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is insisting him
to fight either Miguel Cotto or Juan Manuel Marquez, believing a rematch against Bradley will not be fruitful enough for either one of them.
Pacquiao’s next opponent is still to be announced.
