Dana White: Sao Paulo to be next stop for UFC – UFC news
As promised previously by President UFC Dana White, UFC will have one of its events in Brazil’s Sao Paulo city.
According to Dana White, the date of the event is not yet confirmed but UFC has plans of organising one in Sao Paulo and is looking for the most appropriate venue.
White said, “It looks like it's probably going to be a stadium show.”
To add some amusement to his speech, Dana joked saying, “We're just going to make sure it doesn't rain. I hate doing outside [expletive]. I don't like doing outside weigh-ins, let alone outside fights.”
The largest stadium of Sao Paulo, which was being considered for the event, will not be available since it is undergoing renovations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Dana White might go for other available venues in the city which are big enough to host a UFC
event to its fullest. Last year, UFC 129 was held at Rogers Center in Toronto, which saw record-breaking UFC attendance of 55,724 spectators. White is expecting the same numbers in Sao Paulo as well.
The UFC has previously announced a possible bout between Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva for ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil’ event. This will be the third time the UFC will have an event in Brazil in less than a year. The first event that was held in Brazil
was UFC 142 which did not see massive crowd, however the second one UFC 143 was a hit.
When asked whether the show will see the same falling numbers this time as well, Dana white iterated, “Not at all. Dude, we were just here. I literally was just in this room. When we came back, I was like, 'God, I was just in this room. It feels like weeks
ago.' To be able to come back and do it back to back is huge. When we got to Sao Paulo, it will be big there. When we go to Manaus (after 2012), it will be big there.”
As of now, no date has been announced for the event. According to Dana White, the date will be announced once the venue is finalised.
