Dana White: There is no guarantees with Nick Diaz – UFC News
Not just Georges St-Pierre, even President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is unsure of what Nick Diaz might come up with. GSP vs. Diaz is scheduled for UFC 158 next year, and both GSP and White are hoping that Diaz maintains his discipline
to avoid any mishaps. However, they both know how things can go with Diaz.
“There's no guarantees with Nick Diaz,” said Diaz while announcing UFC 158. “I've got nine welterweights on the show in the top five [presumably meant ‘top 10'], so if he falls out we'll still have a GSP fight.”
White has already faced a lot this year and he does not want fight cards falling off in 2013 too. Therefore, he is maintaining a backup plan, in case Diaz goes the other way.
According to White, number one contender for the welterweight title Johny Hendricks has to wait for his turn. However, White believes, Hendricks should keep fighting in order to maintain his form. White added that if Diaz fails to make it to the fight, Hendricks
would be the first choice.
“If you wait [for a title shot], you do the Rashad Evans thing where you don't know what the h**l's going to happen, especially these days,” said White. “The champ wants to fight Diaz. He can be as frustrated as he wants to be. When he's got the belt and
he defends it and breaks records as long as GSP has, then I might listen to him. [If Diaz falls out] Hendricks is definitely the next in line.”
For now, GSP hopes the fight happens so that fans get to know once and for all who is the better fighter. According to GSP, this is a fight for the fans so that they can see two legendary fighters take on each other.
GSP made his ring return last month against the then interim champion Carlos Condit. He was impressive in his performance, paving way for a super-fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. However, GSP declined the notion saying he wants to fight
other contenders first before going for a showdown against Silva.
