Dana White asserts Strikeforce will not end – UFC News
Strikeforce, since its inception, has been under fire for its credibility of being a fight promotion. Now, since the show has gone on lower ratings than ever before, many are of the view that it will shut down soon. However, President of the Ultimate Fighting
Championship, Dana White believes and asserts that the show will run and it is not going anywhere. In his recent interview, White spoke about the future of Strikeforce and its fighters.
When asked, White asserted, “Strikeforce is not going anywhere. Strikeforce is performing very well for Showtime. They love the business, it's not going anywhere.”
White also spoke about Strikeforce’s lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez. According to most critics, Melendez does not have any potential opponents which is making him rules the show and that even he has lost motivation in the sport. When asked about Gilbert,
White said, “Gilbert Melendez is a huge star over there He's their guy. He just won again, and he will fight again on Showtime. We'll see, I don't know who he's going to fight next, but anything is possible. We'll see what happens.”
Both the fight promotions, UFC and Strikeforce, have been dealing with criticism for a while now. Recently, superstars of both the shows have been found amidst controversies, such as Jon Jones, UFC light heavyweight champion, was arrested on DUI charges.
With all of this going on, questions regarding the code of conduct of the UFC and Strikeforce are being raised. Moreover, many critics from the industry believe that both the fight promotions should have much stricter rules to ensure their fighters remain
within the cage.
However, White and other officials of both the organisations feel that enforcing a code of conduct might restrict the fighters from living their life. In his recent interview, White iterated that even fighters are human beings and they have the right to
live their life their way. White does not see a point in enforcing a set of rules for their behaviour outside the cage.
For now, White believes that Strikeforce and UFC will continue for long. White also wants to ensure that proper drug testing procedures are implemented to keep the sport clean.
