Dana White believes Anderson Silva is the best combat fighter – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is head over heels for Anderson Silva, following the middleweight champion’s outstanding performance against light heavyweight contender Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153 past Saturday.
Silva fought like never before, and the usually smart hunter was more aggressive and sharper. Unfortunately, Bonnar could not sustain Silva’s aggression and he fell in the very first round.
“I think he's the greatest fighter in any combat sport. The things that this guy does are amazing. It's an honor to watch this guy fight,” said Dana White during the post fight press conference.
When asked about Silva’s future fights, White said, “There are so many options for him right now.”
“He never ceases to amaze. And like he says, there's a lot of talented guys now in that 185-pound division. But as he says, he's at this point in his career where there are some superfights there. The Georges St-Pierre fight is a big fight. I think the Jon
Jones fight is a big fight,” he added.
Most fans are already hoping for a super-fight between Anderson Silva and Jon Jones, light heavyweight champion. On the other hand, Silva has already agreed to fight welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. A fight against GSP would be UFC first ever super-fight
and Silva is on for it but the middleweight champion does not want to go head to head against Jones.
Many believe Silva does not want to put his undefeated streak at risk by facing Jones, since the latter is a younger version of Silva with more or less the same capabilities.
When asked, Silva once again shrugged off the notion of facing Jones, saying he is too old to do it. According to Silva, there are numerous other capable athletes who want to face the champion and they should get the chance.
For now, Silva stands as the proud man, escalating to 16 wins and 0 defeats in his career. According to Dana White, Silva is the best athlete in combat sports. In other words, Silva not only defeated Bonnar but also raised the bar for his competitors.
