Dana White believes Chael Sonnen stood up when everyone else ran away – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White revealed that Chael Sonnen was the man who stood up to the challenge of facing Jon Jones at a short notice, just when everyone else turned their backs. White was speaking in regards to UFC 151, an
event that faced cancellation.
White spoke regarding some core issues that are disturbing the UFC right now, such as injuries and fighters backing out of major fights. He was being interviewed by MMA Crazy TV.
“He [Sonnen] was the one who stepped up to the plate. All the other guys that were number one in the pecking order, every one of them said 'h**l no',” said White.
“Then I see a thing today where Machida's like 'I want to fight GSP'... where the f*** did that come from? Him [GSP] and Anderson makes all the sense in the world, him and Machida makes no sense whatsoever. Doesn't that tell you something, when everyone
was looking for that number one contender spot, and now no one wants to be the number one contender in the light heavyweight division?” he added.
Dana White has been pretty upset about the entire UFC 151 cancellation scenario. It was the first time in his eleven-year career that he had to cancel an event. It all started with Dan Henderson’s leg injury. Henderson was scheduled to face Jon Jones, UFC
light heavyweight champion, at UFC 151 but he backed off due to his leg injury.
In order to save the card, White tried replacing Chael Sonnen with Dan Henderson but Jones refused, saying he would not change his opponents just eight days before the showdown. White was compelled to cancel the show, as Jones was not ready to face anyone.
The injury bug has hit UFC hard this year, with many fighters backing out of fights every now and then. Previously, in a press conference, White asserted that they need to find ways to fix this issue. However, it seems like White is still unable to diagnose
the issue. Sooner or later, he thinks everything will go back to the way it once was.
