Dana White believes Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva are close to fight – UFC News
President of The Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is sure-footed that the fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre will happen soon. While White wants St-Pierre to defeat Carlos Condit before
moving onto fight Silva, the latter is least bothered about the showdown.
In an interview last week, Silva came up saying he wants St-Pierre, whether he wins or loses against Condit.
“I think we're pretty close,” said White while speaking on the ‘UFC on Fuel TV’.
“If Georges St-Pierre beats Condit, that could be the next fight,” White added.
Georges St-Pierre will be entering the cage after around 8 years of hibernation. He was injured severely in his last fight, due to which he wanted time out to ensure he returns in his best form.
“These guys want to fight each other now,” White added.
Previously, White notified fans that the super-bout between Silva and St-Pierre will most probably happen at catchweight. Moreover, White has also revealed that the fight might take place in the giant stadium, which is home to the Dallas Cowboys.
The fight is being considered as UFC’s first ever super-bout, if it happens. Anderson Silva is the middleweight champion and he has not lost a fight in his last 15.
On the other hand, St-Pierre stands with 22 wins and only 2 losses in his career.
Since both the fighters are UFC’s top-notch, the fight has driven fans’ attention for years. Silva, who believes he is at the verge of retirement, is finally in the mood to five fans a breath-taking fight. His recent ones have been uninteresting, as most
of his opponents were too weak to defeat him.
His last fight headlined the UFC 148 card, where he defended his title against The American Gangster Chael Sonnen. While most analysts thought Sonnen could end Silva’s career, the Brazilian Spider made knocked him out in the second round. Not just fans of
Sonnen, even White and Silva were disappointed with Sonnen.
Keeping all of this in mind, Silva believes it is time for him to face someone who can put up a good fight.
