Dana White believes Sonnen and Henderson are not much different – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is of the view that Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen are not much different from each other. According to White, the only difference between the two is that Sonnen is a southpaw.
White, who blamed light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for the cancellation of UFC 151 card, believes Jones should have opted to fight against Sonnen, as there is not much he had to do. After Dan Henderson suffered an injury to the leg and was pronounced
unfit for UFC 151 against Jones, White selected Sonnen as the man to replace Henderson.
“Other than him (Sonnen) being a southpaw, they're the exact same guys. They come out of the same camp. They've been training together their entire career. The difference between a guy like Chael Sonnen is Chael Sonnen is a wrestler. He doesn't even hit
as hard as Dan Henderson. The only thing he's changing is his stance,” said White, while putting the blame on Jones for the card cancellation.
“If you are the champion and you're the pound for pound one of the best in the world, you should be ready to fight all comers. It's never happened in the history of the sport,” he added.
White had to cancel the UFC 151 card, as he had no choice left. Jones clearly stated that he would not fight Sonnen or anyone else with just an eight-day notice. It was appalling for White to get a refusal from Jones, as he was hoping the champion would
agree to fight anyone any day.
White has always been proud of Jones, believing that the champion has all it takes to be an MMA legend. This has been the first time White has stood against Jones. In fact, it was the first time White had to cancel a card in his eleven-year-career.
For now, White is hoping for Jones to be at his best at UFC 152, which takes place on September 22. Jones will be defending his title against Vitor Belfort. Cancellation of UFC 152 was an embarrassment for White as well as for Jones.
