Dana White blames Bob Arum for Pacquiao’s knockout loss – Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao is hailed by many as their heroes, even if they do not belong to the boxing industry. President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has always been fond of Pacquiao’s fighting skills, calling him a warrior and ‘one of the best
fighters in the world’ on many occasions. It seems like Pacquiao’s knockout loss has shocked White too, like it shocked many other Pac-man fans.
However, instead of hitting Pacquiao with criticism, White once again chose to put it on Bob Arum, Top Rank’s promoter who made the fight happen. White has blamed Arum on several occasions, calling him a promoter who always looks out for money instead of
good fights. According to White, Arum knew Pacquiao would lose to Marquez and so he should not have made the fight.
“Dumbest fight in history. Bob Arum is a moron. You don’t take that fight, you idiot,” said White while talking about the Pac-man’s knockout. “Why would you do that fight? It’s all about the money, that’s why. That was a money fight, that’s what that fight
was done for. He should have fought Bradley.”
White believes Pacquiao should have faced unbeaten American fighter and the now WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley. For White, Pacquiao would have knocked out Bradley, regaining his lost position in the world of boxing.
“Bradley’s the fight they should have done. He would have knocked Bradley out, he would have got his belt back and now he’s back in the position he should have been in. [Pacquiao's] one of the best fighters in the world. He goes out and fights Marquez again?
Bob Arum is the dumbest promoter in the history of the world.”
White’s bitter words have little meaning, since he himself is trying to make super-fights happen in the UFC, regardless of the fact that one fighter would have to lose. For instance, White wants to put welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre against middleweight
unbeaten champion Anderson Silva, knowing that the fight will mark the downfall of one of them.
Arum probably did the same too. He gave fans a super-fight in hopes of creating a super-rivalry in boxing, and of course making the most out of it in terms of money.
