Dana White claims all future bouts will be of 5 rounds – UFC news
After Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez, most fans were left wanting for more. Following this demand, Dana White has announced that from now all UFC bouts will be of five rounds.
Right now, UFC bouts are of 3 rounds which is about to change after Dana White’s announcement. Dana White made this announcement after UFC on Fuel TV 1 was televised from Omaha, Neb., with the main fight being of Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez.
Dana White was actually pretty upset with the fact that fans wanted more of the match but the event could not deliver.
His exact words were, “Already thought and done. I'm actually pissed at myself about it, so yeah.”
He even accepted that he blew it and that there could have been much more.
He further added, “From this day forward, as we speak right here, right now today, every fight that is a main event that is not a title fight will be a five-round fight.”
This is not the first time UFC is implementing five-round fights. This happened in the past as well when UFC had implemented five-round non-title bouts in June 2011. However, later in the day, UFC again turned back to 3-round bouts after signing a multi-year
deal with Fox.
On this issue, Dana White added, “I can do 33 rounds on FUEL TV if I want to. FUEL TV can't get enough. We blew it tonight. It should have been a five-round fight.”
Sanchez lost the fight against Ellenberger with a unanimous decision after failing in the opening two rounds. However, he did compete well and fans were of the view that Sanchez got the grip in the third round and if there were more rounds, Sanchez could
have made it out was the winner.
In fact, most analysts were even of the view that Sanchez ran out of time and if he had gotten just 10 minutes he would have knocked out his opponent.
Dana White has said that the 5-round bout rule will now apply on all the UFC bouts. However, a proper game plan is still to be introduced.
