Dana White clarifies his stance on Jeremy Stephens’ case – UFC News
Jeremy Stephens, lightweight fighter for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, was arrested on October 5 before his fight against Yves Edwards at UFC on Fox 5. Due to the arrest, Edwards was left without an opponent and it was yet another blow to another UFC
event. Dana White, President of the UFC, tried his level best to bail out Stephens but nothing worked out.
Even though rumours suggested the fight would be cancelled, Dana White assured everyone that the fight is on. White tried his level best but the fight never happened, as White could not bail out Stephens.
In his recent interview, White spoke of the disastrous situation, saying people who had Stephens were not ready to bail him.
“So here's the deal. I have been working since 11am to get him [Stephens] out of jail. the people in Iowa hate this kid and are going to stick it to him for SURE. Everytime I would cut a deal for bail they would change the deal and I was willing to do anything.
They kept changing the deal thinking I would tapout and when I didn't they left me hangin changing it every 5 mins. People at Minn Sheriffs Dept were amazing and I wNt to thank them,” said White.
He added that the sheriff has been in town since Monday. According to White, the only reason they arrested Stephens was to make sure he loses out. He added that Yves is a great fighter who waited all night long for Stephens to get back, as White had promised
him but it did not happen. White then thanked Yves for his patience.
For now, White believes that Stephens’ arrest was only to make sure the kid messes up his event. White also claimed that now Stephens is in big trouble and that he might not be able to leave town for two years.
Dana White has been actively trying to ensure that no fights are cancelled, especially after the fall of UFC 151 recently. He has been trying to fix issues that cause fighters to back out of fights, especially injuries.
