Dana White crushes hopes of super-fight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has crushed hopes of fans for a super-fight between welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre and middleweight champion Anderson Silva. GSP, who made his return against Carlos Condit last month, will
be fighting Nick Diaz, his arch rival next year.
While fans were hoping for a showdown between Silva and GSP after Diaz’s fight, White asserted that GSP might be going ahead with Johny Hendricks. In other words, there will probably be no match between the two icons next year.
However, White did assert that he believes Silva will fight Georges St-Pierre and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones before he retires.
“If Georges St-Pierre wins, those two will fight and it'll probably be in May,” said White for the possibility of a fight between the two.
“Anderson Silva will be there this Saturday watching, and if [St-Pierre] wins, it'll be a huge fight for us,” he added.
“I truly believe - and [St-Pierre's] got to get through Diaz and then possibly Hendricks - but I honestly believe that before Anderson Silva retires, he will fight Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones,” asserted White, when asked about Anderson Silva’s future.
For now, White is counting on Georges St-Pierre to go through Diaz and then probably decide his future. GSP has already iterated that he does not see his fight happening against Silva so soon, as he believes he will not be left with any option after defeating
Silva.
For now, Georges St-Pierre is scheduled to face Nick Diaz next year. According to White, if GSP wins, he will be going ahead to schedule a fight against number one contender Johny Hendricks. In other words, Anderson Silva is not on the cards for anytime
soon.
Fans, who were hoping for both the fighters to clash next year, will now be disappointed to know that the two icons are still weighing their options. It will be their worst nightmare to see this super-fight fall off the cards, similar to the one between
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
White certainly needs to make it happen fast, if he wants things to work out.
