Dana White displeased over Clay Guida’s performance against Gray Maynard – UFC News
Clay Guida was defeated by Gary Maynard in UFC on FX 4’s main event, something that did not sit with president of UFC Dana White quite well. According to White, Guida could have won easily only if he had moved forward to attack Gray, instead of playing on
the back foot. White has now warned Guida that he might face elimination from the organisation if he chooses to fight the same way.
Guida was the crowd favourite and White had expected him to win. However, Guida chose to lean back and tried to be more defensive than attacking. It should be noted here that Guida has earned his reputation through his attacking style of combat. Therefore,
his defensive mode did not quite work for him and ended up in a split decision win for Gray.
While most of Guida fans congratulated him over Twitter, white remarked, “The fight sucked. I don't know how to expand on it anymore. A guy like Guida, his style is to move forward. I think that's the style that's made him who he is, it's the style that
made him a fan favourite and won him fights. I'm not his trainer, I'm not his coach - these guys come up with game plans. But to make a guy like Clay Guida go out and fight like that, that was the game plan? Maybe that's the way [Guida] wants to fight for
the rest of his career. I wouldn't advise it, but I'm not his trainer.”
Most analysts were of the view that Guida could have won the fight with his usual attacking mode. However, somehow, everyone was taken by surprise when they saw Guida in a defensive. The way White has warned Guida, it seems like the fan-favourite fighter
no longer is in White’s good books. If this continues, Guida will soon find himself being fired from the organisation for being a liability.
For now, Guida has to think of impressing Dana White and not just the fans. If White is not happy, Guida will have to leave the organisation, regardless of the fact that the crowd wants to see him in the octagon.
