Dana White does not want any fighter to injure himself – UFC News
Due to the recent mishaps that have led to the cancellation of several UFC cards, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White wants his fighters to take it easy this time. UFC on Fox 5 is around the corner and White is not certainly looking
forward to any injuries. The event takes place on December 8 at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington.
The card is filled with old school fighters such as B.J Penn and Mauricio Rua and new fighters such as Rory MacDonald and Alexander Gustafsson. In other words, the card is prone to an upset since old and new fighters are the one more prone towards injuries.
“The strategic idea is to put the best fights we could possibly put on FOX,” said White in a media call, as reported by Bloody Elbow.
“You guys know what the last year and a half has been like. It's tough to keep a card together. What do we got, like a week and a half to go? I want to say to all of the guys on the phone, Tone your training down a little bit. Let's not get anybody injured
this last week and a half.”
Recently we saw the cancellation of UFC 151 card, due to an injury to Dan Henderson who was scheduled to face light heavyweight Jon Jones. Henderson suffered a severe knee blow due to which he had to back off. White tried his best to replace Henderson with
Sonnen but Jones refused to fight any other opponent at the last moment.
UFC 51 was the very first card cancellation in Dana White’s career. He had spent eleven years without having a card dismissed but this year he had to do so. Now, White does not want history to be repeated again and so he is cautioning his fighters to take
it easy.
However, the point remains, why would a fighter train any lighter, especially if he is hungry to score a victory? Fighters give their best and try to train as hard possible in order to be successful. Telling to calm down might not work.
