Dana White excited to see Machida against Jon Jones – UFC News
President of UFC Dana White is excited to put Lyoto Machida in a match against Jon Jones, the current light heavyweight champion of UFC.
While most fans were hoping to see Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua take on Jon Jones in September, White took a decision that was entirely the opposite. According to White, Rua did not appear to be in the best of his form but Machida did, which was the major as to
why he decided to put Lyoto Machida against Jones instead of Rua.
“I'm sure Lyoto has laid in bed every night since that fight thinking of all the things he should have done and what he could do and what's possible. Now he's got it, so we'll see. We'll find out,” said White in an interview to MMAJunkie.com.
As of now, Machida will be facing as his next opponent. His victory at UFC on Fox 4 impressed Dana White, which is the reason as to why he was selected against Rua for the title showdown.
It should be noted here that White, like most fans, was hoping Rua to be the one to claim a title shot at Jones. However, due to an unstable performance against his opponent Brandon Vera, Rua did not insist for a title shot and so did not Dana White believed
he should get it.
When asked about the title shot, Machida said, “It doesn't matter to me.”
For now, Dana White is hoping to create an exciting showdown for fans, unlike UFC 158 and most of the recent events that were considerably not the usual exciting UFC events.
White understands the fact that the organisation is going through a phase of monotony, where the leading fighters have become indestructible. Therefore, he is trying his level best to find the most suitable opponents for champions like Jon Jones and Anderson
Silva, to ensure no fight goes boring.
Machida is considerably a strong opponent for Jones. According to White, the mixed martial artist has been pestering him for a title shot, something that every fighter should have. White believes Machida has the nerves and the determination to stand eye
to eye against Jones.
