Dana White: fight between Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva possible next year – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is of the view that a fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre is possible at catchweight next year.
Both, Silva and St. Pierre, are reigning champions of their division. They have dominated the divisions for long and so fans have been hopeful of watching both the superior mixed martial artists clash.
“I think if we do the fight with Silva and Georges St. Pierre, it would be at a catchweight, probably like 178-pounds, something like that,” said White in an interview to MMA Weekly.
“Georges St. Pierre says he does (want the fight). He wants to do it, yeah,” he added.
However, White asserted that St. Pierre needs to beat Condit first in order to move towards Silva.
“He has got to beat Condit first. That’s a tough fight. Georges has been off for over a year, so we’ll see,” said White while talking about St. Pierre’s future opponents.
It should be noted here that both of these mixed martial artists are listed among the best of all times. Therefore, a fight between the two can be a spectacular one, if both of them agree to do it.
For now, White is more concerned regarding Silva’s next opponent. The list has Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann. However, Silva’s camp has already declined the notion of fighting either one of them, asserting that they are all too young for
the champion to face.
Silva’s camping is hoping to score a fight against St. Pierre, as they believe he is the only worthy opponent for Silva.
The Brazilian Spider recently defeated Chael Sonnen in the second round via knockout and is now on vacations. According a statement issued by Silva’s camp last week, the champion wants to take some time off from the sport. The statement also read that Silva
is interested in fighting St. Pierre, only if the latter is interest and is ready to come on the same weight.
It can become difficult for St. Pierre to make it up to the weight since he is coming off a long vacation from the sport.
