Dana White has no regrets over UFC 151’s cancellation – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White reveals he has no regrets for UFC 151 cancellation. According to White, he had maintained the record of never cancelling any event, even in the worst situations but now that is no more.
Following UFC 151’s cancellation, White had spoken harsh for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. However, later on, White claimed he has no hatred towards Jones. Since the mishap, Dana White spoke his heart out for the first time with Ariel Helwani
on Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight.
“I had my moment where I was upset,” said White. “Again, one of the things that I like to do is I like consistency, I loved that we never canceled an event, and there were times where people felt, 'should you have made that certain event a PPV?' But the
show always goes on.”
“People don't realize, you know, the collateral damage that goes down, how many people are depending on these events to happen. Not just the fighters and not just the UFC but so many other people that either work for or are invested in this in some way.
And, it's the first time that we've ever had to do it. So, yeah, I was a little emotional about it.”
In another interview earlier this week, White revealed that he has no bitterness towards Jones, despite the mishaps. According to White, Jones is young and that is the reason why he makes aggressive decisions. While White cleared his part, Jones retaliated
in an interview saying he did not expect the harshness from White, as he had always considered White a friend more than a boss.
Jon Jones was scheduled to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 151, just when the latter had to step out due to a leg injury. White tried to save the card by scheduling Chael Sonnen against Jones, but the champion refused to do the fight, saying he will not change
his opponents just eight days prior to the show.
Jones’ refusal to play against Sonnen led to the cancellation of the card and White’s wrath at the press conference.
