Dana White honours Frankie Edgar for his contributions – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has expressed his confidence in former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. According to White, Edgar has always been there for the organisation whenever they need him and so the UFC gives him the
best options to fulfil his combating dreams.
Edgar, who lost via split decision to Benson Henderson at UFC 150 past Saturday, is among the best UFC fighters in the league right now. Even though Edgar dominated most rounds of the fight, the decision was awarded to Henderson, which in itself was a controversial
piece of show.
“I don't know. It's tough. That division is so stacked. It needs to be unclogged and fights need to happen,” said White when asked about Edgar’s next opponent.
It should be noted here that Edgar lost his lightweight title to Henderson earlier this year. At UFC 150, both men locked horns in a rematch. White had already announced that the winner of the match would not get a rematch. In other words, if Henderson had
lost the fight, he would not have gotten another chance to reclaim the title.
“I love and respect Frankie Edgar. We gave him what he wanted because he's always been there for us. Henderson did the same thing and gave him an immediate rematch. There are lots of other guys he would love to fight. I respect them both. Ben won two (fights
with Edgar); he's the man,” said White while talking about Edgar’s value for the organisation.
For now, White believes the lightweight division already has enough competitors. Therefore, a rematch between Edgar and Henderson is not possible. Since this was the second time Edgar lost to Henderson, he will have to go through the process once again to
claim a title shot.
Dana White believes Edgar is one of the most competitive fighters out there. He has faith in Edgar and he believes the American mixed martial artist will bounce back and to the acme of his game. However, for now, White has no plans for Edgar, as he believes
there are others who are awaiting their chance to get a shot at the title.
