Dana White is unsure of Anderson Silva’s next opponent – UFC News
Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is still unsure of UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s next opponent.
Silva brutally defeated challenger Chael Sonnen past Saturday at UFC 148, retaining his throne and dominancy over the division. Sonnen was considerably the only fighter who could have dethroned the Brazilian Spider but no more.
“I don't know. We gotta see,” said White when asked about Silva’s upcoming opponent.
He added, “The 185 pound division is getting very interesting. [Weidman's] fight changed a lot of things. We'll have to see, we'll have to see how this whole thing shakes out.”
“Hector Lombard is definitely one of the top guys—I mean the guy is 31-2.”
After Sonnen’s failure, most UFC middleweight fighters have been calling Silva out. Among all, Michael Bisping is the only fighter who is somewhere close to challenge Silva. Bisping lost to Sonnen last year yet he believes he can take on Silva.
In an interview recently, Bisping claimed that his technical fighting style could take down Silva in comparison to Sonnen’s aggressive style, which has proven to fail twice.
“We'll see what happens. I gotta see when Anderson [Silva] can fight again. Weidman and Lombard are fighting relatively right around the same time. [Weidman] fought yesterday, Lombard is fighting next week. So we'll see what happens.”
The fight between Silva and Sonnen was a highly anticipated one. Most analysts rated Sonnen as the better man, and were hoping to finally witness Silva’s era end. However, Silva proved he has command over his game by taking up a completely different strategy
as opposed to the one he had in their first encounter.
Sonnen fell to the vicious blows of Silva in the second round. In their first encounter, Sonnen fought until the final seconds of the last round. He had won 4.5 rounds but submitted just seconds before the bell rang ending the fifth round.
For now, Sonnen is out of the show. Rumours are that the American Gangster might resign, as he had promised his fans. However, nothing for sure is yet on the surface. Even White was disappointed with Sonnen’s second round defeat, since he was expecting the
American to put up a tough fight.
