Dana White lashes out on Jon Jones – UFC News
After UFC 151 faced cancellation, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has left no stone unturned to blame Jon Jones. Although it was not directly Jones’ fault, White believes he could have saved the card, if not for him then at least
for the undercard fighters.
“This is one of those selfish, disgusting decisions that doesn't just affect you,” said White yesterday. You just affected 16 other people's lives.”
While most people present at the press conference believed White was referring to himself when he mentioned sixteen people, he actually was referring to the undercard fighters.
“Good for you, Jon Jones. You're rich and you've got some money. You don't need to take this fight. There's a bunch of guys on the undercard that this is how they feed their family and this is how they make a living.”
This is probably the first time ever White has lashed out on Jones, his favorite fighter of all time. It should be noted here that the cancelation of UFC 151 was White’s career first ever card cancellation. In his eleven year career, White has not cancelled
a single card. He has always been able to save his cards.
When asked why did White opt for Sonnen as the last resort, he revealed, “Did I think that the Chael Sonnen fight made sense, as far as the title and everything? No. But you know what? These guys have been talking smack back and forth to each other, and
I thought that it was a fight that people would be interested in.”
Strangely, White’s decision regarding Sonnen was quite a conflicting one, as he previously warned Sonnen that by trash-talking the former middleweight will not get a title shot. If now White claims Sonnen’s trash-talking was the reason why he was considered
for Jones, then White is just trying to hide the fact. The truth here is that White had to save the show by all means and he knew Sonnen was the only fighter who could have done that.
However, to his dismay, Jones did not agree to fight Sonnen and so the card had to be cancelled.
