Dana White not sure of Wanderlei Silva’s future – UFC News
After Wanderlei Silva put up a tough fight against Rich Franklin, Dana White believes the 35-year-old fighter still has the stint to move on in the sport. Although Dana White was never happy with Silva, and he was pressurizing him to quit, still the president
believes Wanderlei is an asset to the organisation.
White spoke of Wanderlei’s future in the organisation. He said, “Wanderlei almost won that fight [against Franklin]. But since he came to the UFC, he has been great, acting like he has been in the UFC for a long time. He has been honest and great and he
is going to be with the UFC for a long time, whether he is fighting or not.”
Wanderlei was good at his performance against Franklin. He proved that he still has the stint to carry on in the sport, despite getting old. He nearly knocked out Franklin in the second round with his right hand. However, it was not enough to put Franklin
down. Once Franklin regained himself, he dominated the match. He used his reach advantage to outpoint Silva, winning through a unanimous decision.
When asked about the knockout punch from Silva, Franklin said, “Honestly, I remember in between the second round and the next thing I know it’s the fifth round. I don’t remember (the punch that knocked me down). When that kind of stuff happens, you remember
bits and pieces.”
As of now, Franklin stands with 29 wins and 6 losses, whereas Silva has moved to 34 wins, 12 losses and 1 tie in his portfolio. With just a little bit of more power and quick footwork, Franklin would have knocked out Silva easily but it did not happen.
It should be noted here that Dana White has been after Silva’s life to give up his glove. However, it seems like now the president of the UFC is reconsidering and he wants Silva to continue. For now, Silva is not going anywhere as he has regained his lost
respect as an MMA fighter. He received a heroic welcome when he returned to his hometown Brazil after the fight.
