Dana White promises better shows to fans in the wake of UFC 149 – UFC News
Unlike most UFC events, UFC 149 did not live up to the hype. Instead, most of the major fights were boring enough for fans to boo. President of UFC Dana White is well aware of the situation, and to save the organisation from embarrassment he has promised
better events in the future.
“I like breaking records. We broke the gate record here tonight and I'm embarrassed by it. I was excited when I heard, and now I'm embarrassed,” said White after realising UFC 149 was a disaster.
He added, “The undercard delivered. They were awesome. The main card did not.”
The fight between Matt Riddle and Chris Clements was among the most highly anticipated, but failed to deliver.
“This isn't the Ultimate Clinching Championship. If officiating in this sport doesn't change - and I'm not just talking this sport, I'm talking about combat sports in general - they're going to kill it,” White added.
It is not like this is the first time Dana White has been upset over the event. Just two weeks ago, White found himself dismantled over Chael Sonnen’s under par performance UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The fight was the main card show and Sonnen’s
trash-talking had made it quite an awaited event. However, once the American gangster stepped inside the ring against the Brazilian Spider, he failed to keep up to his words.
Just like UFC 148’s main card event, UFC 149’s main fights could not live up to the hype. White is now cautious of the sport losing its charm, especially after most fighters are being targeted for taking performance enhancing drugs.
Hector Lombard went head to head against Tim Boetsch with his 25-fights undefeated streak on the line. Tim was the underdog, yet he scored a split decision win over Lombard, making the debutant look ugly at his game.
Lombard’s debut performance was another disappointment for White, who thought the unbeaten fighter would bring charm to the show. White now wants to make some major amendments to his books, among which shifting Lombard to light middleweight is the major
one.
