Dana White promises title shots for Diaz and Hendricks – UFC News
President of UFC Dana White has indicated title shot matches after UFC on Fox 3. UFC on FOX 3 is scheduled for this Saturday with Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller and Johny Hendricks vs. Josh Koscheck headlining the event. The event will take place at the IZOD Center
in East Rutherford, N.J.
It should be noted here that none of the headlining bouts are title fights, instead they are to decide the top contenders for title shots. However, President Dana White has opposed this notion saying that nothing for future title bouts has been decided yet.
He added, “We're in one of those situations we were in before with Davis and Evans. Should Diaz win, Diaz is definitely getting the title shot. Should Miller win, Miller's probably going to be a fight or two away.”
According to White, all the four contestants of the above mentioned bouts think they are in the same situation as Hendricks, who is trying for a title shot. However, he said, everyone has a different story like Koscheck who is just a one time champion and
is not in any way near to a title shot.
Nate Diaz is coming to the ring with some of his best performance in the recent years. He had beaten Donald Cerrone and Takanori Gomi in a way that no one had expected. He has won four of his last six fights and has five ‘Fight of the Night’ honours in his
bag.
However, Koscheck still needs to prove himself. He is coming to the ring after defeating Mike Pierce at UFC 143 via split decision. His performance during the match was not appreciated much since Pierce was an easy catch for him.
For now, there are no news of when the next title shot at the lightweight level will happen. However, indications are that by August at UFC 150 it will take place. In other words, Koscheck does not have enough time to prove his mettle. Maybe his fight on
Saturday is his ticket. If he can impress White then probably he will get closer to a title shot.
